For a Costa Rica immigration appointment, first identify the procedure and the authority handling it. Opening a residency file, attending a requested interview and documenting an approved category are different steps. A U.S. Embassy visa appointment does not process Costa Rican residency.
Official DGME and RACSA information checked 7 September 2026.
Start at the official DGME website
Use DGME Regularización to find the category and filing information. Its Trámite Ya section links to Migración Digital and lists the procedures available through that platform. Do not assume every service has the same booking screen or is fully online.
Follow the official registration instructions for a supported digital application. Uploading records, submitting a file and receiving an appointment confirmation are distinct events. Keep the platform’s actual acknowledgment and monitor its notices.

Which channel should you use?
- Residency application: check DGME’s category instructions and whether your procedure is listed in Migración Digital.
- First DIMEX after approval: follow your resolution and DGME’s documentation instructions, which identify the immigration call center at 1311 or BCR.
- Renewal or duplicate: identify the correct documentation service and its own requirements.
- Interview or file-related appointment: follow the notice for your case and confirm the responsible office.
RACSA’s official 1311 page describes the services available through that line. A booking for one service does not replace another.
Before booking
Have your identification, category, file reference if issued, contact details and any official notice available. Confirm which office handles your request, whether every family member needs a separate booking, who must attend and what to bring. Check the exact date, time and location shown in the confirmation.

Rescheduling an appointment
Use the contact or management route in your appointment confirmation. Ask whether a date change is permitted, what happens to the existing reservation and whether the change affects a deadline in an official notice. Save the replacement confirmation. Do not assume that sending a message cancels the old booking or extends a filing deadline.
If you miss an appointment
Contact the responsible office promptly with your reference, appointment date and explanation. Ask whether you need a new appointment, supporting evidence or a response to a formal notice. There is no universal grace period stated here.
Some appointments are tied to a decision or a requirement in the file. If you receive a rejection or another formal resolution, obtain prompt advice on that specific notice rather than assuming a new booking reverses it.

Technical problems and recordkeeping
Check the official address before entering personal data. Save the time and a screenshot of an error without sharing passwords or verification codes. Ask the official service channel how to proceed if the system is unavailable; an error screen alone is not proof of timely filing.
Keep confirmations, receipts, uploaded-document copies and replies together. Our residency timeline guide separates application review from later documentation. Contact CRIE if you need help identifying the step described in your notice.
