Preparing Rentista income documents starts with the wording of the current DGME requirement. Before paying for certificates or moving funds, check what your evidence needs to establish and who can issue it.
What the Rentista income evidence must establish
For the Rentista category, DGME requires documentation issued by a competent authority showing stable and permanent income of at least US$2,500 per month for at least two years. If the income comes from abroad, the supporting documentation must be legalized and authenticated, or apostilled, by the corresponding authorities.
This wording appears in DGME’s Regularización Migratoria requirements, under Residencia Temporal → Rentista y sus Dependientes. It is the starting point for reviewing your evidence.
- Amount: at least US$2,500 per month.
- Period: at least two years.
- Nature: stable and permanent income.
- Evidence: a document issued by a competent authority.
- Foreign income documents: the specified legalization and authentication, or apostille.
A financial product is not the same as the requirement
The published checklist does not say that every applicant must deposit US$60,000 in a Costa Rican bank or transfer income into a local account every month as a universal initial-application condition. It also does not establish that every bank-based documentation method has been abolished.
A bank statement, trust arrangement, investment account or accountant’s certificate should not be presented as automatically accepted. Review how the proposed evidence demonstrates the official amount, period and stability requirements, and confirm the competent issuer for your case.
Prepare a useful income-document review
- List the income sources you intend to rely on.
- Record the available amount and the period covered by the arrangement.
- Identify the organisation or authority able to document those facts.
- Review the proposed wording against DGME’s specific Rentista requirement.
- Check authentication and translation steps before ordering final documents.
These steps help organise a review. They are not a separate government checklist or a guarantee that a particular document will be approved.
Read the general and specific document lists together
Financial evidence is one part of the application. DGME also lists personal records, the signed application, photographs, payment evidence and the relevant passport copies. Family members require the supporting evidence specified for them.

The initial income checklist does not by itself establish work permission, renewal requirements or a guaranteed approval date. Check the official instructions for the procedure you are undertaking instead of applying the initial financial condition to every later step.
